Walking Tour of Historic “A” Section During Village Days

A walking tour of the “A” section featuring a narrative guide of the Originals homes and public landmarks in the Village of Greendale will be offered on Saturday, August 11 during Village Days. Members will lead tours at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. starting at the Greendale Historical Society tent area next to the Gazebo.

The society recently revamped its tour guide pamphlet that has been in use for well over fifteen years or more. The new color brochure offers photographs, an enhanced map, and a few historic facts along the way. It is designed as a self-guided tour for visitors to Greendale but with historical society members leading the way, the additional details and personal reminiscences they have to offer makes the tour a richer experience of village life.

According to Christopher Leinberger, author of The Option of Urbanism, “walkable urbanism is in demand” and his research demonstrates the rise in consumer interest in walkable neighborhoods. The parks, pathways and green spaces of Greendale envisioned by the original federal planners were prescient long before it was hip and trendy. They encouraged healthy lifestyles, added value to the community, and became one of a number of contributing factors in the Village of Greendale being designated a Preserve America community and a National Historic Landmark.
