Alverno College has hired Myra Huth, president of the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN), in the JoAnn McGrath School of Nursing. She has already begun working with the faculty as they further integrate pediatrics across the curriculum, and she’ll teach research in the school’s graduate program.  

Huth brings more than 35 years of pediatric nursing, consulting, research and teaching experience to the College. In her role with SPN, she helps build international partnerships, and advances research, education, and evidence-based practice within SPN and in partnership with others. In addition to her work at Alverno, Huth serves as an independent consultant for MH Consulting, providing consulting services on evidence-based practice and research.

Prior to joining Alverno, she served as a professor of Clinical Faculty at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, and as Assistant Vice President, Research & Evidence-Based Practice Center for Professional Excellence at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Huth’s career has been dedicated to finding ways to reduce post-surgical pain in children and improving bedside care through research. She pioneered the first nursing theory to target pediatric pain, providing essential guidance for practice, research and education. She also established an evidence-based practice and research center, the Point of Care Scholar Program, that provides staff nurses, Advanced Practice Nurses, and allied health professionals education and engagement in evidence-based practice and research. 

Huth earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Alverno College, her Master of Science in Nursing from Marquette University, and her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. Her post-doctoral education includes “Developing Nurse Scientists” NINR training. Huth has been honored by prestigious organizations such as the Midwest Nursing Research Society, the Society of Pediatric Nurses, the College of Mount St. Joseph and the Ohio Physical Therapy Association for excellence in pediatric research.  She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
