City's swimming teams square off, and Greenfield wrestling team earns another win.
The Greenfield wrestling team overpowered South Milwaukee by winning nine of 14 matches in a home dual Wednesday.
The Hustlin’ Hawks got going with a pin by Trent McClanahan in 30 seconds at 160 pounds but found themselves trailing, 12-6, after four matches.
That’s when Greenfield turned it up a notch and won eight consecutive matches.
Kevin Klar, Greenfield’s 103-pounder, won by pin during that stretch, as did Dominic Kroll at 130 and Andrew Krueger at 140. Alec Adams won by technical fall at 125 and Wahid Othman (285) and Taylor Wirtz (135) earned narrow wins at their respective weight class.
Andrew Patrick (112) and Dominic Caputa (119) won by forfeit as Greenfield improved to 3-3 in the Woodland Conference.
Whitnall vs. Greenfield swimming
The Greenfield/Greendale co-op won nine of 11 events en route to a 102-67 victory at Whitnall on Wednesday.
“Even though we didn’t score many first places we did have a lot of time improvement,” Whitnall coach George Guddie said. “We were competitive against there lineup and swam some really great races.”
Greenfield/Greendale’s Matt Jungers won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 free.
Shawn Fleischhacker (200 individual medley), Adam Fleischhacker (50 free), Shawn Lucchesi (100 butterfly) and Andy Staszak (100 free) also won for Greendale/Greenfield, which also swept all three relays.
Whitnall’s Jesse Hodel won the 100 backstroke and Alex Bell took first in the 100 breaststroke.
