Daniel Riemer Ousts Longtime Rep. Peggy Krusick

Constituents of the newly drawn 7th Assembly District decided the fresh face was the way to go Tuesday.

Daniel Riemer, a 25-year-old from Milwaukee, scored a convincing victory Tuesday in the Democratic primary over longtime state representative Peggy Krusick.

The Associated Press called the race for Riemer at approximately 10:45 p.m. Tuesday. At that time, he had 70 percent of the votes, more than enough to knock incumbent Krusick out of the race.

When 100 percent of the precincts had been reported, Riemer won with 68 percent (1,791) to Krusick's 32 percent (828). In Greenfield, Riemer outgained Krusick, 178-149.

Krusick has been a representative since 1983.

, Riemer graduated from Rufus King High School and the University of Chicago before enrolling in law school at the University of Wisconsin.

The 7th District includes areas of Greenfield, West Allis, West Milwaukee and Milwaukee. Only roughly a third of the constituents that Krusick represented over the last decade had an opportunity to vote for her again this time around.

Krusick was often criticized by fellow Democrats . This was the third straight voting cycle she had a contested primary.

Riemer might face Milwaukee Republican Tiffany Koehler in the general election in November. Koehler, a registered write-in candidate, needed a certain number of write-in votes Tuesday to be added to the November ballot. It was unknown Tuesday evening if Koehler received those votes.
