Drunk Man was Carrying Loaded Gun, 2 Knives, Police Say

A Greenfield man told police "you can never have enough protection," when asked about all his weaponry.

A Greenfield man is accused of carrying a loaded handgun and two knives when he fell over drunk in a parking lot last week.

Jeffrey S. Etringer, 59, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of carrying a concealed weapon. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Nov. 22, Greenfield police officers were called to a parking lot in the 4700 block of Supreme Court after someone reported Etringer had fallen. When officers arrived, Etringer was getting treated by Greenfield Fire Department paramedics.

Etringer smelled of alcohol, was mumbling, had slurred speech and had a bottle of vodka in his pocket. As fire department officials were strapping him to a gurney, they found a loaded .22 caliber revolver in his waistband and two knives in his pocket.

When asked why he had the weapons, Etringer told officers “you can never have enough protection.”

Etringer will make his initial appearance in court Thursday.
