Google Favors Greenfield (Wisconsin) Police

The department fielded two out-of-state calls this week from people trying to reach Greenfield police in Massachusetts and California.

So, you need to get a hold of the Greenfield Police Department, but don’t know the phone number. You pull out your smart phone, do a Google search for “Greenfield police” and voila, the top search result is the Greenfield Police Department’s home page.

That’s great news for anyone who lives in Greenfield … Greenfield, WI, that is.

According to Police Chief Brad Wentlandt, on Monday, Greenfield police received a call from a national media outlet asking for information about a missing 2-year-old. Wentlandt said his department wasn’t aware of a missing toddler in the area, and quickly realized the caller was trying to reach Greenfield, CA.

Wednesday afternoon, a 49-year-old woman called the station to report she had struck a vehicle in the police station parking lot.

An officer, however, had a heck of a time finding the woman in the lot or the vehicle she struck, most likely because she was 1,015 miles away in Greenfield, MA.

She was advised to call a more local department.

Did you know? There are Greenfields in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, California, Minnesota and Indiana.
