The sudden closing of Golden Guernsey in Waukesha over the weekend has left some school across the state scrambling for milk for the thousands of students who drink it during the school day, according to news outlets.
The Greenfield School District, however, made alternate plans and had milk available Monday, as did several Milwaukee-area school districts.
"We have worked it out for Greenfield and the co-op we belong to," Superintendent Conrad Farner said Monday morning. "We are getting milk from another distributor and already received our deliveries this morning.
"There will be some sorting out to do over the next few days but as of now our services should not be interrupted."
Superintendent Dr. Lowell Holtz indicated in an email to Greenfield Patch that Whitnall schools would not be adversely impacted by the closing, but did not go into specifics.
Waukesha Patch reported Golden Guernsey abruptly shut its doors on Saturday, leaving more than 100 employees wondering about their future.
“No milk haulers were allowed in and no trucks left for deliveries,” emailed one employee who asked to not be named.
Waukesha Patch attempted to contact the company via two phone numbers – one was disconnected and one had no voicemail system available. Today's TMJ4, however, reported Sunday that Golden Guernsey President Brad Parks confirmed that the plant has closed, though he wouldn't say that the 112 employees have lost their jobs. He told the TV station it was an "ongoing" process.

Another plant closing in Waukesha? I thought we were going to create jobs. For all the visits the Gov. and all the other Republican candidates paid Waukesha, it sure is a shame industry seems to be fleeing so rapidly.

That's really crappy. I thought that companies with a certain number of employees are supposed to give them a 60 day notice.

I think it's strange that the closed without giving their employees any warning at all. But it's good that most schools got a different brand of milk in time and didn't have to much trouble. Hopefully the employees are able to find new jobs soon.
