So proud to live in Greenfield. So glad we have a leader who obviously thinks before he speaks. Kudos to our chief for his well spoken comments.

Ah, how nice to pimp...err, advertise the carry class. I expect my comment will be deleted since free speech is looked down upon if you are a dissenting voice. And how about the 48 Milwaukee County officers who were laid off last year, and the 61 laid off the year before?

Since the sheriff isn't responsible for law enforcement anywhere in the county except on the freeway and the 48 deputies worked in the jail it doesn't really matter.

Sheriff Clarke is my hero. He is one of the few community leaders to have comon sense.

I think our Chief of police is great, and so are his officers. And Sheriff Clarke is just being Sheriff Clarke. A man looking for a cause.

Unless they are on the freeway, does the Sheriff's Department even respond to 911 calls? I didn't think so. Didn't the Sheriff also just give up 911 service to the City of Milwaukee? I think what he says will get people charged up, but does he really have anything to do with any of it? I'm not so sure he has common sense like people think he does. I think he has an ego that constantly needs feeding.

Greenfield does an excellent job for all of us that live here, but what happens when you are somewhere else or two minutes isn't fast enough? I think the Sheriff was mainly speaking to the city of Milwaukee and his own force. My wife works in Milwaukee and sometimes doesn't get off until 7:00 or 8:00 P.M. Seriously considering getting her some classes on self defense and conceal and carry. ONLY after she is trained and proficient in the handling and shooting of a firearm. It is better to be prepared ( and hope never to use it ) than having wished you were.

Basically Sheriff Clarke is telling people of Milw. they can not rely on calling 911, so how are people who do not want to buy a gun or shoot a gun, supposed to protect themselves? Not everyone feels comfortable around guns. Guns are not for everyone. I guess people that don't want a gun in their homes are out of luck according to Clarke, since they can't rely on 911. So glad I live in the city of Greenfield.

Sheriff Clark has no respect for local police. Shortly after he took office when appointed by former Governor Mc Callum, he told the Chiefs in Milwaukee County that he was in charge of law enforcement everywhere. That may be technically true, but that was 1848 law. We now depend on local police unless assistance is called for. I recall a news article saying that when he was a Milwaukee cop, he was suspended for a gun violation.

I feel so sorry for those of you that depend on the government for your family's safety, and I feel sorry for your family.

Having the "feeling" of safety and actually being safe are not the same thing. It's 5-10 seconds to my home defense or personal carry firearm, that's faster than your 2 minute response time and much more effective a deterrent to an imminent threat of violence upon me and mine. So trying to promote police "protection" of each individual by Greenfield police where it does not exist is unrealistic and unfair to the people you serve. Even in this article Greenfield police agree with Sheriff Clarke that if you're going to use a firearm for defense, then get properly trained. Wake up people, you are in fact responsible for your own safety!

Correction: Guns are not for everyone. Just because you want to own a gun does not give you the right to say everyone wants or needs a gun. It is a choice. I don't think someone has to be an Einstein to learn how to handle and shoot a gun. That was not my point. Many people I know personally choose not to have guns in their homes. I was a single mom raising my son for over 18 yrs. and not once did I think we would be safer with a gun in my home, just the opposite. My mother and father, who came over here from Ireland and raised 7 children, never had a gun in the house. None of my siblings, who have grown children, have ever had guns in their houses. If you want a gun in your house that is your choice. Don't speak for others and say guns are for everyone, because they are not. It is a choice. Respect my choice and I'll respect yours.

Howdy, boys y'all know there's bad sheriff in town

There's bad cops everywhere even in Greenfield, the chief is one of them-- crooked as the day is long -- sticky fingers too--- good luck Greenfield people your going to need it

Everyone attending a Buck or Marquette game at the Bradley Center should bring a gun with them. A bat may be at large during the game and bite a fan or worse yet delay the game. There may not be time to call 911 or summon a usher or a security guard. The people have the right to defend themselves against these flying attackers.

I believe what Sheriff Clarke stated was fact. A person should not have to depend on the Police Department for everything, but reality is that we do. If you purchase a gun, please take a gun safety course. But do not become arrogant about it and think you are all that and can take care of yourself. Everyone needs a backup plan.

I'd like to know what is next - are we going to be responsible for putting out our own fires? Give ourselves medical aide. Sometimes we just plain need help.

Will Clarke tell the people to "own a drone"?
