Halloween Express Owner Hopes to Open a Family Entertainment Center

His proposal will be considered by the city's planning commission Tuesday, one of sever meetings scheduled for this week.

The city’s Planning Commission will consider recommending a family entertainment center to the Common Council when it meets at 6:30 p.m. July 12, in Rm. 100 of City Hall.

The center, called Lightspeed, would feature lasertag and electric go-carts, and would occupy the current 17,000-square-foot Halloween Express building, 4251 S. 27th Street.

Jon Majdoch, owner of Halloween Express's seven locations, including the giant, inflatable pumpkin outside of State Fair Park in West Allis, is requesting the change.

The city does not have any lasertag or go-cart facilities.

The planning commission will also consider recommending to the Common Council that Constance Brown of Chantilly Banquets become the new owner and operator of Klemmer's Banquet Hall, 10401 Oklahoma Ave., which has been around since 1976. No changes are proposed for the current operation of the banquet business.

In addition to other business, the planning commission will also consider recommending that Balistreri Brothers Pizza be allowed to open a pizza pick-up/delivery business in the former Marie's Pizza in the Grandpa Frank's retail strip center.

Meetings kick off with Whitnall School Board on Monday

The Whitnall School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the district's administrative office, and though there are only two items on the consent agenda, there will be plenty of reports discussed, including those regarding the administrative staffing plan and the status of the high school’s marching band.

At Monday’s Tree Commission meeting, slated for 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the Division of Public Works building, the commission will discuss its budget plans and requests and discuss the selection of trees for the 2012 spring planting.

Thursday busy as well

The Board of Public Health will convene at 7 p.m. Thursday in Rm. 105 of City Hall to discuss the impact of the state biennium budget on the city’s health programs and services, the 2012 department budget and focus areas for the 2012-16 community health improvement plan, among other business.

Also Thursday, the Public Library Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the library conference room. No agenda has been posted online as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Monday’s Police and Fire Commission has been cancelled and rescheduled for July 18, at the Law Enforcement Center. Wednesday’s Finance and Human Resources committee meeting has also been cancelled. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 27.

I like the idea a lot! I think it would be awesome to have a place like that in town, not only to play but to work.
