Man Arrested at Golden Key Motel with Morphine Pills

Suspect's mother calls police after she's concerned her son is planning to kill himself inside the motel.

A 25-year-old Milwaukee man is facing a felony drug charges after he was caught inside a Greenfield motel with seven morphine pills.

Jason R. Smith was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Friday with one count of possession of narcotic drugs. If convicted, he faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Feb. 2, Smith’s mother contacted police after he told her he was going to kill himself at the , 3600 S. 108th St. Police found him inside a room with seven morphine pills inside a plastic bag.

Police discovered Smith had withdrawn $200 earlier in the day from his mother’s bank account, then used the money to buy the pills and rent the room.

Smith will make his initial appearance in court March 8.
