A Greenfield man doing a little investigative work after CDs were taken from his car found the culprit at a resale shop shortly after reporting the theft to Greenfield police Nov. 21.

Turns out the person who had the missing items just happened to be his neighbor.

According to the Greenfield Police Department report, a man who lives in the 4900 block of West Cold Spring Road came to the station to report someone entered his unlocked vehicle and took at least four CDs and two pairs of expensive sunglasses.

About an hour after talking with police, the man went to Mega Media Xchange, 4820 S. 76th St., to ask if someone had sold his items there that day.

While there, he saw his 43-year-old neighbor, who was selling items to the resale shop, including some of those the man believed were ones stolen earlier that day.

The man called police, who arrived at the scene, and after questioning the suspect, arrested him for possession of stolen property.

The neighbor later told police that a friend of his was over that night and went “car hopping” and then left a bunch of CDs and sunglasses at his apartment. The 43-year-old sold a handful of the items his friend stole for $11 at Mega Media Xchange. He also brought the sunglasses to the police department and they were turned over to the victim.
