Mayor Michael Neitzke Will Seek a Third Term
With a little more than two weeks before the Jan. 2 deadline, the incumbent mayor is the only person to show official interest in the office.
Michael Neitzke will try for a three-peat.
The City of Greenfield mayor will run for a third term in the April 2013 election.
Should Neitzke, the city’s 10th mayor, win a third, four-year term and complete it, he would take his place in the city annals alongside Oakley Fisher as the longest-tenured mayors in city history. Fisher served from 1964-72.
As of Dec. 13, Neitzke is the only candidate to file a campaign registration statement and nomination papers, according to City Clerk Jennifer Goergen.
Once a candidate files a campaign registration statement, he or she must collect between 200 and 400 nomination signatures and submit them to the city clerk’s office, along with a declaration of candidacy form.
Neitzke was a city alderman for seven years before being elected mayor in 2005, when he defeated Timothy Seider. He defeated Seider, who was the mayor for 10 years — the second-longest tenure in city history — again in 2009.
Alderman Thomas Pietrowski ran in 2009 as well, but lost in a primary.
The spring election is April 2. A primary, if needed, would be Feb. 19.
