Peggy Krusick Makes Party Waves With Scholarship Amendment

The Democrat from Milwaukee wants race eliminated as a factor when it comes to handing out college scholarships to disadvantaged students.

State Rep. Peggy Krusick (D-Milwaukee), who has constituents in Greenfield, broke from her party Tuesday to offer an amendment to remove race as a factor for the Talent Incentive Program, a college scholarship program for disadvantaged students.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Krusick’s suggested amendment was debated for nine hours by the Assembly and passed early Wednesday morning. All Republicans and Krusick, a Democrat, voted for the measure; all the Democrats voted against it.

The final passage of the bill, however, was put off until Thursday by Democrats, according to the story.
