The season's first snow storm wasn't as strong in the Milwaukee area as it was north and west of here, but it did bring enough snow to force people to pull out their shovels and rev up their snow plows.

Superintendent of the Division of Public Works Dan Ewert told Greenfield Patch city employees took the streets for a salting operation around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to tackle the first couple inches of snow.

City workers were back out in the early morning hours to clean up for the rush hour and school bus travel, Ewert said.

Greenfield Fire Chief Jon Cohn said his department responded to some downed electric and telephone wires, and that Greenfield provided neighboring Greendale and West Allis with ambulance service during the night.

The roads were not as bad as I expected. The city workers were very efficient.
