Greenfield Districts Set For Slight Levy Increase; Whitnall Unchanged
The Greenfield School District's annual meeting and budget hearing is Monday, Sept. 10; Whitnall's annual meeting is Sept. 24.
Residents of the Greenfield School District are encouraged to the district’s budget hearing and annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in the Greenfield High School Performing Arts Center, 4800 South 60th Street.
District officials and School Board members are expected to discuss the district’s proposed tax levy of $25 million, which is $63,737 higher than last year, or a 0.26 percent increase, according to Greenfield NOW.
NOW said the district refinanced about $13.7 million in debt and that total spending is down 1.9 percent over two years. The total proposed budget of $45.5 million includes a $35.68 million operating budget, slightly higher than last year’s $35.65.
Whitnall’s annual meeting is not until Sept. 24, but district residents will likely be pleased there is no increase in the property tax levy in the proposed 2012-13 budget.
NOW reported the district’s operating budget of $30.6 million in 2011-12 is down to a proposed $23.7 million in 2012-13 thanks to the district’s decision to pay down millions of dollars in debt with fund balance money last year.
