Shoplifters Attempt to Get Three TVs With One Receipt, Police Say

All three were apprehended after each pushed a $299 TV out the door after only one of them made the purchase, according to the police report.

A trio of shoppers tried to take advantage of a BOGO sale—buy one, get one—at Best Buy on Saturday.

Make that buy one, get two.

Only problem was there was no such sale.

Three individuals were arrested for retail theft after police say they purchased one $300 television and then attempted to use the receipt from that purchase to walk out with two more identical televisions.

According to the Greenfield Police Department report, a 22-year-old Caledonia man purchased the initial television, loaded it into the backseat of his vehicle and then handed off the receipt to his 21-year-old female accomplice from West Allis.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Milwaukee walked out of the store with an identical TV and put it in the Caledonia man’s trunk. He left the area on foot and was later apprehended at his home.

After being notified by store security personnel, officers caught up with the Caledonia man, who was trying to drive away but was stuck in a line of cars attempting to get out of the parking lot.

The West Allis woman, using a receipt dated 5:18 p.m. was then stopped by police approximately 22 minutes later pushing a shopping cart with a third TV through the parking lot.

When an officer asked her why it took so long for her to leave the store she told him she was looking at other items. She later admitted to participating in the attempted receipt scam.

All three were issued citations for retail theft. The woman was also cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after admitting 1.92 grams of marijuana and a marijuana pipe found in the car were hers.

The Milwaukee man also picked up a possession of drug paraphernalia citation.

Evil Genious'

I guess the door guard is going to have to draw smiley faces on the receipts when people walk out the door with their items, just like at Sam's Club
