State Rep. Jeff Stone Clarifies Statement on Campaign Flier

Due to printer's error, campaign material incorrectly conveys Republican's position on Act 10, the collective bargaining law.

State Rep. Jeff Stone, who is seeking re-election in the 82nd Assembly District, issued this statement Friday afternoon regarding a campaign mailing piece that included extraneous words prefacing a quote from Bill Smith of the Wisconsin National Federation for Independent Business.

I know that at this point of the election cycle, printers and mail houses are working around the clock to meet the needs of their customers who are in the political business. As a printer myself, I understand that errors can be made working in such a time sensitive environment.

Unfortunately, the vendor I use made one of these mistakes and put out a campaign lit piece which inaccurately includes the extraneous phrase “Wants to Repeal Act 10”. To be clear: I voted for Act 10 and will NOT be working to change this law. My graphic designer has informed me that the phrase was inadvertently inserted while making changes after my final approval of the order. I became aware of this error once the printed material began arriving in the mail today.

I apologize for any confusion that this may have created and want the voters in my district to know that I do not hide from my positions on the issues nor the votes I have taken.

That's a strange accidental insertion.

No kidding, right?! Its not exactly a "typo". Either his designer doesn't like him or he's trying to intentionally muddy the waters.

I thought Jeff Stone ran a printing company (out of his basement in the G section). Why didn't he print this himself? And just to clarify - he employs ZERO people in his "business."

Republicans putting false statements "by mistake" on campaign related material is rampant this year, like it is every year: http://www.onewisconsinnow.org/press/gab-complaint-filed-over-rga-mailing-with-incorrect-voter-information-van-hollen-asked-to-investigat.html

I just don't trust this guy Stone. Maybe it is the way he talks to his constituents (he berated a senior citizen who confronted him about his affiliation with ALEC), the fact that he hasn't had ONE listening session in six years, or his retro, 80's porn-style mustache. Of course, who am I to talk with my Beverly Hills 90210 style sideburns and "stylish" Rachel Maddow glasses.

Maybe Stone did this on purpose - After all, Greendale (his home town) has the highest percentage of current and retired WEAC members per capita in WI. Maybe, just maybe he is trying to pull the wool over their eyes, or maybe he should have printed the fliers himself (in his basement "business") - But then again, he would have actually had to do some work, considering he is the ONLY employee in his company. Seems like Walker's strategy isn't causing Stone's company to grow any...

His printing business does print his campaign material. You can find GAB reports going back to at least 2002, as far back as I looked, that list Friends of Jeff Stone as one of the top accounts for the business on the financial disclosure report.

Some of the other accounts listed on some of the older reports are interesting as well. Such as greenfield library and greenfield high school. Those are both on the 2002 report, just a few years after he was alderman. Did he use his position to get those contracts? Would be interested in finding out. Maybe one of his local competitors might be able to shed a little light on that one. Remember too that this would have been while he was still opporating his business illegally out of his father in laws basement on Layton ave. Funny how a former alderman didn't know that the zoning there wasn't commercial.

I find his explanation statement hard to believe. But then again, he belongs to the "fantasy-flip-flop" republican party. I don't know how this guy has stayed in office for as long as he has.

He has stayed office due to the fact that the democratic party and the citizens of the 82nd stopped challenging him in the elections. Glad Kathy stepped up to fill the void. The way she has takin this on herself is commendable.

Thanks for this info. Wow, he is slippery slope isn't he. Even back then it \was "double-speak". I sure hope the people of his district pay attention to his "slippery eel" ways. Every time he opens his mouth his statements should be suspect. An Alderman not knowing the rules.....give me a break!!!!

This one has got to be my favorite....

"For years, LaMonte Harris was the right-hand man to Milwaukee Ald. Michael McGee Jr., rallying support and proclaiming the innocence of the now-incarcerated politician.

Harris, who has also spent time behind bars, says he lent a helping hand to a mix of other troubled Milwaukee candidates, including former School Board member Charlene Hardin, onetime Ald. Paul Henningsen and disgraced ex-Sen. Gary George.

Quite the résumé.

But here's the stunner:

The ex-felon has now turned up working for the campaign of state Rep. Jeff Stone in the race for county executive."

I missed that too. I was not interested in Jeff Stone for any office so I never paid any attention to anything he said or did. I can see how that would be a favorite of yours however. What a bonehead move. This guy has them all doesn't he?

Do these replyers really think that if someone said they would repeal Act 10, would get elected?

Long ago, when in fact he had an opponent (wow he really did), his chief surrogate removed his opponent's literature from the table at a forum held at Barnes and Noble.
