Suspicious Activity Just Part of Treasure Hunt

Sometimes suspicious-looking acts are really just fun and games.

An off-duty Cudahy police officer called Greenfield police to report he observed a male subject lift up the bottom cylinder of a flagpole at a Greenfield park and put a pill bottle inside at 3:40 p.m. Oct. 2.

Greenfield police located the bottle and found it contained a log of people who had visited the site as part of geocaching treasure-hunting game.

In an effort not to ruin the fun for other treasure hunters, Greenfield Patch has chosen not to reveal the exact location of the park.

That and the following incidents were reported in the Greenfield Police Department log during the week of Oct. 1-7:

• A 15-year-old student was taken into custody and cited for theft of a cell phone at Greenfield High School at 1:45 p.m. Oct. 1.
• A woman reported to police plane tickets were fraudulently purchased with her credit card account sometime before 10:50 p.m. Oct. 2.
• Officers responded to multiple calls of thefts from vehicles in the Hales Corners Park and Ride, 4800 S. 108th Street, around 9 a.m. Oct. 3. One caller reported his car was broken into and that an MP3 player and in-dash radio system were stolen.
• The manager at Pick N’ Save told police a customer attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 3.
• A 32-year-old man was taken into custody and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 4800 block of South 27th Street at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 4.
• A woman reported someone entered her unlocked residence between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Oct. 5, and took jewelry.
• A student at Whitnall High School was cited for carrying a concealed weapon after police said he brought a knife to school on Oct. 5.
• A 35-year-old man was taken into custody and cited for operating while intoxicated, possessing drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon (knife) after he was pulled over by police in the 3900 block of South 27th Street at 2:35 a.m. Oct. 6. If convicted, it would be his first drunk-driving offense.
• A 12-year-old boy was cited for theft after an employee at Lightspeed, 4251 S. 27th St., told police the boy lied to him all day about being part of a birthday party so he could ride the go-carts all day for free at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 7.
