'The Hobbit' Opens Dec. 13; South Shore to Host Midnight Screening

The next big blockbuster of the season is appearing in theaters around Greenfield soon with midnight showings. Advance ticket sales are happening now.

You remember "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, right? Well, it's time now for that other giant epic of middle Earth, the latest blockbuster movie coming for the holiday season: "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" opens Dec. 13 and it's not too soon to figure out where you'll watch.

South Shore Cinema in nearby Oak Creek has a midnight showing planned, including for the 3D version of the film. Regular showtimes start Friday, Dec. 14, and multiple times are available to movie-goers.

Tickets for the midnight showings are available now by connecting through The Hobbit's official site or through the websites for Marcus or Cinemark.

According to IMDB.com, the movie traces the story of "a curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, (who) journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug."

The fantasy film based in a land of elves, wizards and hobbits starts with midnight showings the night of Thursday, Dec. 13, with its "official" opening on Dec. 14.

I am excited for this movie. I read the book and if the movie is half as good as the book it will be great.
