Just a few weeks ago, Greenfield City Clerk Jennifer Goergen spelled out a worst-case scenario that had as many as 5,000 Greenfield residents in the wrong wards come election time.

Those residents would have been able to vote, but they would have shown up in another ward's poll book and would have had to re-register. In most cases, those residents would not have known about their misplacement until arriving at the polling place.

The errors were caused when state legislatures drew new boundary lines that did not match up with 2010 U.S. Census data.

But on Tuesday, Goergen told Greenfield NOW that thanks to weekend work by both her and clerk's office employee Sherry Hartman, and two technicians from the city's engineering department, the tedious process of moving all 5,000 or so residents into their correct wards has been completed.

The city's first election of 2012 is a Greenfield School Board primary on Feb. 21.
