Walker Says Romney Needs More Passion — and More Paul Ryan
Wisconsin governor says he wants Republican presidential candidate to talk directly to voters — with a feisty Paul Ryan firing up the crowd for him.
“Passion” is at the heart of the presidential campaign, Gov. Scott Walker believes, and he said Thursday Wisconsin Republicans have enough of it to carry the state for presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
But, he said, Romney needs to show more of that passion — and one way to bring it out would be to campaign more with a pumped up U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan running at his side.
Walker said he knows Romney to be a man of passion, and now, with just less than six weeks left in the campaign, he needs to get out and show it.
“I love seeing Paul Ryan on the stump,” Walker said. “I want to see more of the enthusiasm I saw in Waukesha the day after he was announced, when I saw Mitt and Paul together — because I not only saw Paul pumped up, I saw Mitt Romney pumped up.
“I’ve seen it in Janesville, I’ve seen it in Waukesha, I want to see him more in Wisconsin because this is going to be a key state, and I want to see that kind of passion," the governor said.
“For anybody who’s been at those events,” Walker said, “there’s no doubt that Mitt Romney has passion. I just think nationally, he’s got to stop worrying about the national press and more time literally talking to folks like all of you here.
“I thinks folks in our states, whether it’s here or Ohio or anywhere else, want to hone in and focus about what’s at stake, and I think if Mitt Romney’s has a chance to tell that story, he’s got an impassioned story, he’s got a great story and… he’s got a plan.”
Preibus Still Confident About Romney's Chances Here
Declaring that President Barack Obama has “a Wisconsin problem,” Walker, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus did their best to fire up their grassroots base during a conference call and press conference in Wauwatosa.
Priebus, himself from Wisconsin, talked to teams at all 25 Republican campaign centers in the state, starting with a football analogy to rally the troops.
Related: You're invited to Patch's presidential debate viewing party
Seeming to acknowledge recent polls that have shown Romney beginning to lag, Preibus said: “In any race that’s within a field goal or four points, the ground game can make up everything — and we have been accustomed to crushing the Democrats on the ground in Wisconsin. We’re going to do it again.
“I want to see more of the enthusiasm I saw in Waukesha the day after (Ryan) was announced, when I saw Mitt and Paul together."
“At the end of the day, this is what will make the difference between winning Wisconsin and losing Wisconsin – it’ll all come down to the ground game," Preibus added. "And you know, putting those 10 electoral votes up on the board for the red team is something that will give us so many options in making sure that we get to 270 electoral votes.”
Priebus announced that Republican “Victory Centers” across the state would this week surpass 1 million voter contacts — and Walker said that was four times what state Democrats could claim.
Touting a Republican shift from top-down, broadcast advertising-driven campaigning four years ago, Walker said that this year grassroots supporters had made six times as many phone calls and done 72 times more door-to-door visits than in 2008.
In response, Gillian Morris, Wisconsin press secretary for Obama for America, said in a statement: “Given that Mitt Romney is mired in the roughest three-week stretch of a GOP presidential campaign in history, it doesn’t surprise us at all that they would tout unverifiable numbers that have nothing to do with restoring economic security for the middle class.
"Building economic prosperity from the middle-class out is where the president’s focus has been since he was sworn in, and that’s where it will remain for the final weeks of this campaign.”
Wisconsin to Play a Key Role in Race
Walker referred to a Thursday morning report in the Wall Street Journal that indicated Romney could still win even if Obama wins Ohio. But he would need to win Wisconsin, above all, to do it. The Journal report actually states that for Romney to win without Ohio, he would need to sweep all the other swing states, Wisconsin included.
Walker said that Wisconsin is ahead of other states in grassroots organizing and that he wanted to see that passion spread through the national campaign.
“What we found when we went around in May and June to the Victory Centers throughout the state — (First Lady Tonette Walker) used to love to ask this question: ‘How many people have never been involved in a campaign before?’ And we’d get about half the room, half the Victory Center would raise their hand.
“People would tell me, ‘You know what? There’s just too much at stake not to get involved.”
Whether all that passion and enthusiasm can win Wisconsin, much less the nation, remains to be seen.
State Sen. Mary Lazich, who also was in attendance, was clearly pumped by the energy around her, but said, “Yes, I wish we could bottle some of it up and send it everywhere.”

Thanks, ALEC, for providing some talking points for our "bold" governor on this topic. Reality check: Ryan-Rand recently was booed at a presentation before AARP, so those atheist-fueled talking points aren't resonating in mixed rooms. If Politico is to be believed, Ryan-Rand's nickname for Romney is "Stench." Perhaps the GOP should work on pushing the Tea fringe back to the nether reaches of the party where it belongs and focus on finding itself for 2016.

Ima, Roger Simons is a senior correspondent, not a satirist. His article wasn't presented as satire; it also contains much other factual information. Certainly "The Stench" is being accused of being fiction, but in fact I'd give Ryan-Rand more credit if it is true. Despite being a millionaire, Ryan-Rand has done a much better job of presenting himself as ordinary folks than Mr. Entitlement Mitt Romney. Unless something extraordinary happens between now and November, Obama's getting re-elected. Ryan-Rand might as well work on damage control now.
Mr. Hoffa, you don't need my highest-percentile EQ to detect the difference between freestyle Scott Walker and string-operated Scott Walker. What you call "lies" are statements that don't align with your own ideas.
Mike Itz, have we met? ; )
Bob, are you familiar with the term "cognitive dissonance?" It's not me, it's the GOP. Hard to keep up with all the conflicting stances and muck ("Win at All Costs") thrown out by the Gross Old Party these days. Current polling numbers place Obama in good shape for re-election.

I appreciate your efforts of interpretation, rather than just allowing them to be handed to you by campaign tacticians. This is the place where good decision making begins.
Paul Ryan as late as 2005 has credited Ayn Rand for formulating his ideas/ideals since youth. It is reasonable to assume that "rational self interest" guides his attempts to dodge and weave from the atheist ideas that have driven his career to-date. Will you let him get away with it?

Yes, that JRH predicted President Obama’s ACA, would be declared Unconstitutional too…
Judge John Robert's, the Chief Supreme Court Justice ruled it constitutional.
Then JRH spent the better part of 4-days arguing on the Patch that HE – the ever-bloviating JRH – had found a flaw in Judge Robert’s reasoning – and then, and then, he was going to file astounding court appeals, put forth amazing legal theories and precedents and he would, once-and-for-all- prove that President Obama’s ACA was Unconstitutional.
Moreover, after being forced [by the great John Wilson] to actually read the decision – he still bloviated for a day or two – and then, after finally finishing the final stage of grief, he accepted the FACT that he had no basis for any appeal…
Like Bush: All hat, no cowboy…

@Schmitzy -
That's a LIE - Obama didn't lower anyone's taxes! He maintained the status quo from his predecessor, Bush.
And as far as payroll taxes go, those aren't really taxes according to you guys on the left - they're an investment. All Obama did was reduce the amount that is forcibly collected for that investment, which means that citizens can expect lower SS and Medicare benefits in the future.
So honestly, what taxes did Obama lower for the middle class? Answer - NONE!!!
But Obama did impose a lot of new taxes on the middle class via Obamacare - one of the largest middle class tax hikes in the nation's history. And he hasn't done anything to stop the Bush tax cuts from expiring on Dec 31 for everyone, so get ready for that!
Also, small businesses, of which Hoffa is an owner, has seen their unemployment insurance taxes and other taxes significantly increase during Obama's term.
Finally, the middle class doesn't make investments??? Yeah, that increase in the cap gains taxes that Obama wants definitely won't impact people's 401k's, IRA's, or other investment vehicles, will it? Under Obama. you'll have to work harder and longer to get to retirement, and even when you make it, you'll have less to enjoy in retirement because Obama's government needs more of your money so it can support low lifes like Schmitzy!

The stimulus paid for tax cuts and Republicans call it a failure. Republicans calling tax cuts a failure.
Let's dwell on that a moment. The key to every Republican plan - tax cuts - are called a failure when Obama does it. Funny

@FreeThought Troy -
If you actually read the Politifact analysis that you linked to, you'd notice that:
"Obama's claim is based on a tax cut intended to offset payroll taxes."
FICA and FUTA are the federal payroll taxes. The money collected from these 'taxes' go into SS, Medicare, unemployment, and workers compensation benefits. Paying in less just means that people will receive less benefits when they qualify for these programs.
If you bothered to read all of Hoffa's comment, he previously addressed this. As the intention of those programs is to eventually directly pay people back what they directly paid into those programs, Hoffa really doesn't consider that to be a tax cut, but rather a decrease in the amount that we're forced to invest into those government programs, which means that we can expect less benefits from those programs later.
And FICA and FUTA taxes actually went up under Obama for businesses, including middle class small business owners. Notice how Politifact admits that "the key word in his statement is "working.""
The problem is that neither Politifact or Obama consider small business owners to be "working" people, because after all, those small business people "didn't build that - somebody else made that happen."
Because of this, Hoffa questions the accuracy of the 95% claim, which Politifact never fully analyzed before reaching their conclusion. Proof that you can't trust the fact checkers!
Care to try again?

What Christian can thrust aside "Love Thy Neighbor" for atheist Ayn Rand's "Rational Self Interest?" Because that's frankly what a vote for Paul Ryan represents. It's no coincidence that Catholic bishops decried Ryan's so-called budget plan (and plans for Medicare) as "inhumane."
A person's religious beliefs should not impact the work that they do. Christian teachings, and those of every major belief system, align with the legal and social organizations of our culture. I have great concern about the anti-government, anti-social views that are being expressed by individuals fueled by atheist Ayn Rand, and Paul Ryan stands chief among them. When these anti-socialists talk about "limited government" they mean they are trying to limit the voices of ordinary people in our democratic republic, i.e., We the People, For the People. That's to clear the road for further entrenchment by special interests/power brokers. If successful, it does not bode well for Americans who are just trying to live, put their kids in college, and not die an early death because they can't afford medical treatment and Wall Street decimated their retirement savings.
We have some choices to make as the American people, whether we are the America of "In God We Trust" and "We the People" and Love Thy Neighbor or if we are willing to give up on our beliefs and be subsumed by forces of negativity and greed.

Yes, the leftist Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had an article about "the apology." Here's a link to blog analysis, which includes links to the actual article (and I believe 3 related bylines) http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/purple-wisconsin/171799211.html
If you want to ask Scott Walker about it today, too bad. "Your" (and I use the term "Your" as a synonym for the acronym "ALEC") governor is keynoting the state GOP convention in New Hampshire. Shame on those of us who tried to elect a governor who would actually serve Wisconsin.

Romney could also use more Ron Paul. Maybe tell people he'll make him Secretary Of The Treasury. It'd definitely get him some more votes.

Let's start to be comfortable with what appears to be the truth: the Nation will be much better off if we remove Walker and defeat Romney and Ryan. We as a Nation must stay the course, keep the helm under the control of Obama for this Ship of State.
Now:
@Hoffa: please stop lying about the American Health Care Act. Yes i will grant you that, sadly, it was misnamed the affordable health care act; but, yes, thankfully, you rightists, Tea Party Radicals and Randians have nearly called it by its true name Obama-care(s), but you and your allies are misinforming people; are propagating lies about what has yet to have happened. You are awfulizing a situation, instilling fear, hyping the party line, and saying so very little that is factually correct. Just take a drink; have a valium; and face facts: the Ship of State would sink so fast if Romney and Ryan were to take its helm. There would be no controls; no rudder, no propeller, no Judeo-Christian and Aristotelian ethics guiding the decision-making. Unless you are uber-wealthy and one who cares not for anyone except yourself you would cry every night. We need an Aristotelian Augustine morality and social contract. Stay the Course. Re-elect Obama. And Reject Ryan twice, Wisconsin.
ps. Why do you refer to yourself in the third person? have you talked to anyone about that habit and what it means?
(oops, I can feel an attack coming on: gotta run and play with the kids).

@Nick Poulos -
Please elaborate - how exactly has Hoffa lied about Obamacare?
Here are the facts about Obamacare:
1) Insurance premiums have gone up since it was signed into law, and not down as Obama had promised.
2) The individual mandate will primarily impact middle class families, hitting them with one of the largest tax increases in our nation's history.
3) Panels of appointed bureaucrats will decide what kind of care is approved and under what circumstances approved care is warranted, instead of leaving such decisions to the doctor-patient relationship.
4) It forces doctors to error on the side of frugality as opposed to the side of caution.
5) It imposes new taxes on businesses of all sizes and individuals above certain income levels, thus consumers can expect the prices of goods and services to increase as a result.
6) It increases usage of the health care system without increasing the supply of doctors or health care facilities, thus all can expect longer waits and reduced services.
7) Like most government programs, it will probably cost more than initially projected (the CBO has been continually revising their estimates upwards) and end up contributing to increased deficits and debt.
And that's just for starters!
Yeah, what a wonderful program all right - NOT!!!
In 2008, candidate Obama promised no mandate:

The 2nd most robotic politician in America is giving the unsolicited advice – to be passionate – to the 1st most robotic politician in America?
Isn’t that like Chris Christy advising a politician to be open, approachable, well mannered, courteous and respectful?
And, of course, we really need more of Lyin’ Ryan, with his Budget Bill, first adding 5T to the national debt, mostly by increasing the Defense Budget– he will not tell us what he will cut to reform taxes – but you can bet $10,000 ONE of them is your Mortgage Deduction! We know Medicare will suffer the axe for a voucher; Medicaid will die. Then too, we will have to listen to this preppy, arrogant, hardly post-teen – as he gestulates all over the stage like someone on Meth – and tells us about his fantastic 30 second Marathon…Yeah, great advise!
After Wednesday’s DEBATE (?), it will become apparent – as it already has to most American’s – that the race for president is over… Willard died a long time ago…
Golly gosh, Gomer, even Willard’s lovely wife, Ann, was on TV Sunday, stating that she is very concerned about Willard’s “emotional stability” should he be elected president.
Ann, please back up, sit down and take a few long, deep breaths… it is not going to happen; there are simply not that many emotionally unstable people in America…

"It would take me too long to go through all of the math."
-- Rep. Paul Ryan, in an interview on Fox News, after host Chris Wallace played a clip of President Obama saying "they tell you they're gonna start talking specifics really soon, they don't do it. And the reason is because the math doesn't work."

No wonder you are so into RETRO...
Lyin’ “Ryan's just saving the good stuff for the debate!" Of course, he is…
When asked by Chris Wallace on Faux News Sunday – not exactly a Liberal bastion of ideology or TRUTH – to explain how cutting taxes 20% and adding 5T to the deficit is going to work to balance the budget. Lyin’ Ryan, the thin-skinned, arrogant, preppy boy, became very angry, frustrated, and full of hubris, stating, “It would take me too long to go through all of the math….”
Of course, it would…
I doubt if the moderator on October 11th is going to let Lyin’ Ryan get by with that; just don’t look for a long debate here, Lyin’ Ryan will probably start another record breaking marathon, getting off of the stage and running back to Janesville to his Oscar-Meyer Weiner mobile.
This Biden/Lyin’ Ryan debate is destined to be the shortest debate in history.

@Lyin' John Wilson and @Lyin' morninmist -
The math adds up. If Romney's plan creates the kind of job growth that he's projecting, 12M new private sector jobs, we'll have12M more people paying into the system. With 12M more people working, they won't be draining from the system any longer either - so we'll actually be able to cut spending. With the combination of additional revenues and decreased spending, it will be possible to lower the marginal rates, without affecting middle/working class exemptions and deductions, and experience revenue neutrality - not that we necessarily need revenue neutrality, as Romney/Ryan plan to cut a lot more spending from the federal budget.
It works. Why Ryan couldn't explain it this way when being interviewed by Chris Wallace on Sunday is beyond Hoffa - maybe Ryan was just having an off day.
Granted, Hoffa prefers his proposed federal tax plan over Romney's, it's definitely better than the alternative of higher taxes across the board that is being offered by Obama and the Dems!
SUCK IT!!!
