What's Closed In The Greenfield Area On MLK Day

We've compiled a list of closings in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.

All federal, and state offices as well as banks will be closed on Monday in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The holiday marks the birthday of the famed civil rights leader. King’s actual birthday is on Jan. 15, but the third Monday of January was designated as the official holiday in 1983.

The Greenfield City Hall, and Milwauke County offices (with the exception of courts) and the Whitnall School District will be open on Monday, but here's a list of what will be closed:

They will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday and regular mail delivery will resume on that day.

When did Greenfield schools start closing for MLK day? When my DD went (1998-2007) they NEVER had that day off . What changed? More minorities in the district?

MLK Day is a national and state holiday in honor of a man whose beliefs we should all follow. More local offices should be closed today. He was killed because he was trying to do the right thing. His accomplishments include the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the voting Right Act of 1965 and other progressive ideas that he did not live to see.. I still remember his "I have a dream" speech in 1963. The work is not done.

Are the teachers required to work today? If so, the "off day" is coincidental with the end of the semester, therefore, the district is not really celebrating MLK day. It shouldn't be commended for honoring Dr. King. I hope it isn't true.

KHD, Why? Should all paid holidays be abolished? Is getting paid for not working on those days a violation of our work ethic?, like getting something for nothing? Why do you pick this particular day to say that all of us should work. When I was paid for MLK day, I volunteered to work for civil rights, civil liberties and justice for all.
