When Are the Oscars?

Check out the 85th annual Academy Awards on ABC affiliate WISN (Channel 12). A Wisconsin native is in the running for the Best Picture.

The Oscars, red carpet, fashion, celebrities and most importantly, movies — it all takes place on Sunday, Feb. 24.

WISN (Channel 12) will air the 85th annual Academy Awards at 7:30 p.m. The network's red carpet coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. in select markets.

After winning awards at the Sundance and Cannes film festivals, "Beasts of the Southern Wild" — produced by a Wauwatosa native — is in the running for the biggest prize of all: an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Michael Raisler's "Beasts of the Southern Wild" is one of nine nominees.

The movie received three other Oscar nominations on Thursday: Best Director (Benh Zeitlin), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Quvenzhané Wallis) and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Zeitlin and Lucy Alibar). Wallis, who is 9, is the youngest nominee ever for the Best Actress award.

Others that are in the running for Best Picture include "Zero Dark Thirty""Silver Linings Playbook""Lincoln""Les Miserables""Life of Pi""Amour""Django Unchained" and "Argo".

Really Steve, the "low informed"? How about before you click on an article where you clearly don't care about the subject matter, only so you can put in some snide remark where you denigrate those that enjoy some rather harmless piece of fluffy entertainment, you make sure you don't make yourself sound stupid by getting a common phrase completely wrong?

And FYI, I have a Masters degree in Tax, I work hard, I watch the news and formulate my opinions based on facts, I read, I converse constructively on many different topics, and yet, I enjoy watching the Oscars, because I love movies and this is about movies. Do I fit your definition of "low informed", Mr. "I have Wisconsin with an American flag so I'm somehow smarter and more patriotic than everyone else"?

Being 'low informed' is different than being 'low educated'.

Thank you Mike! I totally agree. I am in management at a major area bank and I too am looking forward to the oscars. I think it's great that there is a Wauwatosa tie and am hoping 'Beasts' wins an award. The tiny budget film is competing against others with huge budgets and major actors. You don't have to be in the movie business to enjoy watching these awards. I don't consider myself low informed OR low educated.
