Farmers Markets In and Around Greenfield

Greenfield Patch scouted the best places to get your produce, and now you know where to go this weekend.

Looking for some fresh-picked produce straight from the farm? Even though Greenfield doesn't have a farmers market within its city limits, there are plenty just a short drive away.

Organized by distance from Greenfield (using the Greenfield Library as a center point), following are 10 farmers markets within a 15-mile radius of the city.

Greendale Open Market

Distance: 2.0 miles

Location: Municipal parking lot, one block west of Village Center, Greendale

Remaining dates: Saturdays, 8 a.m.-noon: Aug. 6, 20 and 27, Sept. 10 and 24, Oct. 1 and 15

Features: A wide variety of unique vendors and community groups feature their wares from flowers to fresh produce to bakery and arts and crafts.

Location: Stahl-Conrad Homestead, 9724 W. Forest Home Ave., Hales Corners

Remaining Dates: Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon: July 30, Aug. 13, Sept. 3 and 17, Oct. 8 and 22

Features: Produce, cut flowers, honey, baked goods, handmade arts/crafts, plants and supplies.

West Allis Farmers Market

Distance: 4.6 miles

Location: 1559 S. 65th St., West Allis

Remaining Dates: Through Thanksgiving weekend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 1-6 p.m.

Features: One of the largest, if not the oldest, established Farmers Markets in southeastern Wisconsin. All the farmers at the market have to raise what they sell. A wide range of produce arrives at the market throughout the year. The early season brings bedding plants, radishes, asparagus, and rhubarb. Strawberries and raspberries arrive in June as well as zucchini, squash, peas, snap beans. Corn arrives about a week after July 4 along with many other squashes and herb plants. The late season brings fresh apples and cider.

Howell Avenue Farmers Market

Distance: 5.5 miles

Location: US Bank, 4015 S. Howell Ave., Bay View

Remaining Dates: Saturdays, July through October, 8:30 a.m. to noon

Features: Fresh produce throughout the entire summer.

Mitchell Street Farmers Market

Distance: 8.7 miles

Location: Walker's Square Park, between 9th & 10th, Washington & Mitchell, Milwaukee

Remaining Dates: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Oct. 20.

Features: Fresh, healthy, affordable, locally-grown fruits and vegetables from Milwaukee area farmers. 

New Berlin Farmers Market

Distance: 9.4 miles

Location: New Berlin Plaza parking area, 3600 S. Moorland Rd., New Berlin

Remaining Dates: Saturdays through Oct. 29, 7 a.m. to noon

Features: Shop jewelry and bedding plants early in the season and apples, sweet corn, baked goods and produce and more as the season progresses.

South Shore Farmers Market

Distance: 9.6 miles

Location: South Shore Park, 2900 S. Shore Dr., Bay View

Remaining Dates: Saturdays, 8 a.m.-noon, through Oct. 15

Features: The South Shore Farmers Market connects Bay View residents with Wisconsin farmers and local food producers and serves as a community gathering place at South Shore Park.

Tosa Farmers Market 

Distance: 10.3 miles

Location: Harmonee Bridge municipal parking lot, next to the historic Little Red Store, 7720 Harwood Ave., Wauwatosa

Dates: Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., through Oct. 15

Features: An open air market that brings locally-grown fruits and vegetables and foods crafted by Wisconsin artisans directly to the people of Wauwatosa and surrounding communities. TFM embraces a "buy local" ethos that fosters a greener, more sustainable city, bringing the community together in the process. 

South Milwaukee Downtown Market

Distance: 10.7 miles

Location: 11th and Milwaukee Avenues, South Milwaukee

Dates: Thursdays, 3:30-7:30 p.m., through Oct. 13

Features: An eclectic mix of merchants selling fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, flowers, art, jewelry and everything in between. Also find a sampling of area restaurants, live entertainment and special events.

Fondy Farmers Market

Distance: 11.3 miles

Location: 2200 W. Fond du Lac Ave., Milwaukee

Dates: Saturdays 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., through Oct. 30; and Saturdays, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 5-29

Features: One of Milwaukee’s oldest and largest producers-only farmers market. Cooking demos and classes, youth activities and live music on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon.
