9/11: Greenfield Fire Department Remembers

I was very proud of our Fire Department in Greenfield, Wis. on 9.11.2012.

It would of course have been very easy to allow this anniversary to pass, as it is kind of an odd year ... but a few of our very honorable firefighters participated in a smaller ceremony just to keep the memory a little more alive in all of our lives.

I was privileged to be a part; just wanted the community to know that we have not forgotten.

An opening prayer and a few words by me - a quick word from Battalion Chief Jim Mollet and our Chief Jon Cohn.

The ringing of the Bell ceremony, respectfully lowering the flag, and then we stood around and talked about memories of that day.

You know ... a lil' of the ol' where were you kinda talk ...

It was a great way to start a day that really does need to be remembered - and as we go on and the anniversaries move us further and further from it ... it will be important to be very intentional to do things that keep the sacrifice of heroes and the senselessness of hatred permanently stamped deep within our hearts and minds.
