GARY, Ind. -- A sub-par shooting performance led to a 64-48 loss for visiting Alverno College at the hands of Indiana University Northwest Tuesday night in a nonconference game at the Savannah Center.
The Inferno (4-4) shot under 27 percent from the field, 15 percent from the 3-point arc and 48 percent from the free throw line, while the hosts RedHawks (6-8) made 46 percent of their shots from the field and 83 percent of their free-throw attempts.
IUN led by just two, 24-22, at the half as both teams struggled shooting in the opening half, just 32 percent for Alverno and 31 percent for IUN.
Yet the RedHawks connected for 65 percent of their attempts in the final period while the Inferno was under 23 percent on its field goals.
Megan Holland had a game-high 29 points for the RedHawks and added 10 rebounds, as the hosts outrebounded the Inferno, 53-34.
Alverno returns to action on Saturday at Finlandia University in a 6 p.m. (EST) tipoff.
