Donors can save the day for patients in need and receive vouchers for a Brewers game
BloodCenter of Wisconsin is inviting the community to save the day for patients in need at its 12th annual Big League Blood Drive. The two-day drive will be held Tuesday, August 27, and Wednesday, August 28, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Miller Park, 1 Brewers Way.
And as a small token of thanks for their life-saving gift, all attempting donors will receive a voucher for two tickets to one of the following Milwaukee Brewers games:
- Wednesday, Sept. 4, 7:10 p.m., against the Pittsburgh Pirates
- Tuesday, Sept. 16, 7:10 p.m., against the Chicago Cubs
Free parking and childcare will be available, and of course, refreshments. Donors should enter Miller Park at the hot corner/T.G.I. Friday’s entrance.
The drive is an effort to boost blood donations going into Labor Day weekend when the need for blood tends to increase. BloodCenter hopes to see more than 1,000 donors during the two-day drive to meet the needs of the patients it serves.Patients like Ethan.
Ethan is a typical 11-year-old who loves baseball, football and fishing, but his liver condition requires regular monitoring and treatment. If his platelet count is low, Ethan depends on the generosity of blood donors to keep him healthy enough to do the things he loves. His mom, Tina, is a platelet donor. She says, “Your blood donation might help a child like Ethan pitch in a baseball game or make a touchdown. And it might save a life.”
Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-BE-A-HERO (1-877-232-4376), visiting www.bcw.edu/appt orm.bcw.edu on their mobile device. Appointments are preferred to ensure a quick and convenient donation, but walk-ins are also welcome. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes birth date.
Anyone 17 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. The entire process takes about an hour.
