Dr. Parker Palmer Featured as Keynote Speaker for 2013 Alverno Community Conference

The Alverno Community Conference, an annual day of learning that provides an opportunity for the extended Alverno community to share current research around a central theme, will be held on Friday, October 4, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and, this year, will explore the theme: The Art of Happiness. Registrants can choose from 28 topics – all connected to happiness – during three concurrent sessions.

New to this year’s event is the addition of Dr. Parker Palmer as the keynote speaker; Palmer will share his insight on happiness during the lunch hour. Author of several best-selling books, including Healing the Heart of Democracy, Palmer is a world-renowned author, speaker and activist who remains committed to issues that pertain to education, leadership and social change.

Registrants are also invited to participate in a “Happy Hour” of music-making and hands-on art activities set to take place in the afternoon from 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. Among the many Happy Hour events is an event that benefits The Empty Bowls Project. Participants work with Alverno’s Art faculty to create a hand-crafted bowl that will be used for a Milwaukee-area fundraiser to end local hunger.
