Greenfield Received More Than Two and a Half Inches of Rain

But the city seemed to escape any major damage.

According to the National Weather Service, Greenfield received 2.56 inches of rain thanks to severe storms that moved across southern and eastern Wisconsin Tuesday afternoon.

The Wisconsin Emergency Operation Center did not report any damage specific to Greenfield, but in in Milwaukee and nearby communities, flash flooding caused minor basement backups and ponding on city streets. Some specifics were:

  • At approximately 8 p.m., 3-4 inches of water had accumulated on the roadways near the Zoo Interchange and in the construction area of the Mitchell Interchange and Airport Spur.
  • The City of Milwaukee reported that their 286-City Hotline received hundreds of calls (127 for sewer backup/water in the basement and 277 for clogged basins causing street flooding).
  • Two feet of water was reported on Miller Parkway/So. 43rd St. near Miller Park.
  • Sewer manhole covers were reported overflowing at 43rd Street and West Lincoln Avenue and North Port Washington Road and Capital Drive.
  • City of Milwaukee DPW reported they barricaded flooded underpasses on West Capital Drive between 31st and 35th Streets.
  • The roadway was reported flooded at Mayfair Road and Bluemound Road in Wauwatosa.
  • Lightning strikes caused power outages (transformer hit and lines down from pole that split) in West Allis near Highway 100 and West Lincoln Avenue).
  • MMSD report combined sewer system overflows were released in local rivers and Lake Michigan.
