Greenfield Water Tower Under Repair

The tower is undergoing standard repairs including a paint job.

What looks like some bizarre scene out of a science-fiction movie is really just the Greenfield water tower getting some much needed repairs.

The water tower, located near 84th Street and Cold Spring Road by , is draped with a gigantic cover.

The tower, which is under control of the Milwaukee Water Works, is undergoing standard repairs including replacing some metal that was showing signs of deterioration, sandblasting, and painting both inside and outside of the tower, according to Greenfield Superintendent of Public Works Dan Ewert.

Correction: A previous version of this story said that "City of Greenfield" will be painted on the water tower. It will not.

Since tower is within city limits, was reason give why "Greenfield" wouldn't/couldn't be painted on it?

Why isn't our City's name being painted on the tower?

The tower is owned by the City of Milwaukee, and it's not matter of whether "Greenfield" could or couldn't be painted on the tower. In February, the Common Council had a chance use $7,000 from the city's Hotel/Motel Tax Tourism account to paint "Greenfield" on the tower. Alderperson Shirley Saryan moved to expend the money, but the motion died because no one seconded the motion.

I thought it was great way to market our City. It should be on the tower. You can't better visibility and branding.
