In Other Words: Camping

The Greenfield Public Library suggests these five books to help take your camping trip to the next level.

As the weather starts to get warmer and school lets out, families start to plan their camping trips.

As part of an ongoing Greenfield Patch series entitled "In Other Words," the suggests these great resources to help make your camping experience relaxing and fun:

  • The Joy of Family Camping by Herb Gordon, 1998: Get advice and information for taking the whole family camping. This book includes information on equipment, activities, menus, and safety.
  • Camper's Guide to Outdoor Cooking : Tips, Techniques, and Delicious Eats by John G. Ragsdale, 1989: Prepare an exciting camping menu that goes beyond hot dogs and sandwiches and amaze your fellow campers. This book will provide even the most experienced camper with dining ideas.
  • Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, collected from American folklore by Alvin Schwartz, 1981: No camping trip is complete without ghost stories to tell around the campfire at night. This is a classic with stories that will make kids and adults shiver with fear.
  • Guide to Wisconsin's Outdoors by Jim Umhoefer, 1990: Find places to canoe, fish, hike and play near your campground. This book offers a guide to Wisconsin’s state and national recreational lands.
  • Woodall's North America Campground Directory, 2007: Not sure where to go camping? Check out this book to find information such as directions, cost, contact information and amenities for campgrounds all around North America.
