New Church Secures Home on 76th Street

The Way Church will hold services at Martin Luther High School across from Southridge Mall in Greendale on 76th Street starting Oct. 6, 2013.

The Way Church, an upstart, nondenominational church started by a young Muskego couple, has secured a location for its services and will open its doors two months from now.

Pastor Josh Waldoch said the new church will launch Oct. 6, inMartin Luther High School’s 500-plus-seat auditorium.

The high school is located at 5201 S. 76th St. in Greendale.

“It’s a perfect spot, directly across from Southridge Mall,” Waldoch said. “Everyone in the area knows where it is.”

Services will be Sundays at 10:30 a.m. They will last about 65 minutes, according to Waldoch, and allow for 10-15 minutes of fellowship or to grab a cup of coffee. Activities for children will take place during service.

Waldoch and his wife Emily have been actively spreading the word about The Way. They loaded the back of a truck with beach balls with the church’s logo and tossed them to parade-watchers on the Fourth of July in Greenfield. They recently held a meet-and-greet at Bakers Square on 76th Street, right down the road from Martin Luther. And they’ve had a table set up at a pair of Greendale Open Markets.

They’ll be back at the Open Market on Sept. 21, two weeks before holding their first service.

“It’s been nice,” Josh Waldoch said. “A lot of the conversation we’ve had with the people in the community is that they are looking for a church like ours, because it’s nondenominational. There seems to be a lot of interest for that.”

Waldoch said a group of eight individuals have committed to be part of the church’s launch team, and he’s hoping that number is closer to 50 come October. He’s in need of musicians, children’s workers, ushers, greeters and other volunteers.

As many as 11 households have expressed interest in being initial members of the church, Waldoch said.

“We’re really excited and looking forward to Oct. 6,” Waldoch said. “There’s a part of us that wish we could star this upcoming weekend, but we know there’s a lot more to do yet.”
