Unsure 'How to be a Man?' Gathering Wednesday Could Help

Men and boys of all ages are encouraged to visit Elim Tabernacle, 5000 S. 60th St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the first of a series of gatherings based on the New York Times bestseller The Book of Man: Readings on the Path to Manhood, by William J. Bennett.

On Wednesday, three soldiers with wartime experiences will discuss what it means to be a “man in war,” one of the six categories of men grouped by Bennett in his 2011 book that defines what a man should be and how he should act based on profiles, stories, poems, essays and more.

Steve Rogers, pastor at Elim, hopes to hold additional “how to be a man” sessions in subsequent months, covering all the categories Bennett captures in his book with additional community leaders.

“I think the stories the audience will hear Wednesday (from the soldiers) will build enough interest that men will want to come back, and bring someone with them next time,” Rogers said.

The gathering is open to all and should last approximately 55 minutes.
