VIDEO: Greenfield Fire Chief Stresses Importance of Pedestrian Safety

The Ava Walk on Sunday had swarms of people participate in awareness of pedestrian safety. The day included speeches from Ava's family members and the Greenfield Fire Chief.

Stop in the Name of Love was the theme of the AVA Walk on Sunday afternoon in Downtown Greendale. The purpose of the second annual walk was to create awareness of pedestrian safety.

The event is named after 5-year-old Ava Zimmerman who was struck and killed by a driver while crossing the street with her family in April 2010.

Members of Ava's family, along with Greenfield Fire Chief Jon Cohn, spoke to raise awareness to educate and remind drivers that they need to stop at pedestrian crosswalks.

The bronze statue, which was donated by local businesses in remembrance of Ava, stands near the spot where the crash happened.

Proceeds from this year’s walk will go to Children’s Hospital Bereavement Program which supports families who have lost loved ones in traumatic incidents similar to Ava’s, especially when it involves children.
