In Other Words: Wisconsin Sports Fans Rejoice

The Greenfield Public Library has plenty of offerings for the sports fanatic in the family.

Here it is, August, and my thoughts are turning to sports, with all of the potential to be a very productive year for Wisconsin teams.

In case you need some suggestions to get excited about the possibilities, here are the suggestions:

Super Bowl  XLV Champions: Green Bay Packers, produced and directed by David Plaut and Chris Weaver. Follow the team from the first snap to the final gun of Super Bowl XLV, the most anticipated and watched sporting event of the year. Complete with highlights from the regular season, playoffs, and the big game itself, with behind-the-scenes action.

The Packer Way: Nine Stepping Stones to Building a Winning Organization by Ron Wolf and Paul Attner.  Ron may have retired in 2001, but here’s his take on the business of how to get your team on the top. Maybe his chapter about staying on top should be required reading for the team this year?

What It Means to Be a Badger: Barry Alvarez and Wisconsin's Greatest Players by Justin Doherty: Many of the greatest players ever to wear the Cardinal and White come together with coach Alvarez to share their memories, including legendary players Ron Dayne, Al Toon, Pat Richter, Joe Thomas, Jim Leonhard, Lee Evans, and Troy Vincent.  These players, among others, share their remarkable stories, thoughts, and memories from their time as a Badger.

The Man with Two Arms by Billy Lombardo: Henry Granville, who loves baseball, teaches his son Danny all about the game, and Danny turns out to be a baseball phenom, able to pitch both left- and right-handed. He makes it to the majors (the Cubs, no less), but the pressures of celebrity could ruin his life as well as his father's. Fans of sports fiction should find this an enjoyable trip to the mound, with just enough old-fashioned Americana magic to keep them guessing.

41 Great College Victory Songs: Even though the songs are performed by the University of Michigan Band, you can still revel in the rendition of “On Wisconsin” on game days.
