Whitnall High School Drama Club to Present Godspell

For this year's annual musical, Whitnall High School's Drama Club will be performing its take on the classic musical, Godspell.

The Whitnall High School Drama Club will be presenting its annual musical March 21-24 in the Whitnall High School auditorium.

On March 21-23, the show will start at 7:30 p.m.; on March 24, the show starts at 2 p.m. Seating will be first-come, first-serve, with doors opening 30 minutes prior to show time. Make sure to get there early to buy your tickets and get a good seat.

This year’s show is sure to be a good one. Director Tom Weissgerber says he is “choosing not to do the traditional version, which you may all know.” His twist on the play makes it “very modern and up to date; from music to costuming, the show will look contemporary.”

According to performer Ian Griffith, a junior, the audience members are sure to enjoy it because “it’s fun and entertaining, and I’ll be in it too!”

The show is about the spirit of the community and the idea to treat others as you would have them treat you, according to Weissgerber.

Weissgerber also said, “The students give up a lot of time because we rehearse Monday through Friday, anywhere from two to four hours and the students are committed 100 percent the last two weeks.”

But the performers are not the only ones who have to work hard in the 8 weeks the Drama Club takes to prepare. Whitnall High School senior Amber Peliska is stage manager, meaning she is responsible for the entire stage crew.

“Crew is responsible for building and painting set, and all the little details such as lights and physically running the show while it’s going," she said. "In January and February we work Tuesday and Thursdays, starting in March stage crew meets basically every day, usually from 4:30-7:30 p.m."

Overall, this should be a great performance with a more modern take on a classic, involving lots of hard work, dedication and enthusiasm. Be sure to join your Whitnall High School Drama Club for their performance of Godspell this March!
