Church Illustrates Height of Proposed Billboard With Crane

The crane was placed at the back of the lot of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 3820 W. Layton Ave. It is designed to represent the height of a digital billboard the church would like to erect on its property.

If you were driving on I-894 Wednesday, you may have noticed a giant crane on the south side of the interstate between the Loomis Road and 27th Street exits.

The crane was placed at the back of the lot of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 3820 W. Layton Ave.

It is designed to represent the height of a digital billboard the church would like to erect on its property, through a partnership with Lamar Advertising.

The city's Planning Commission heard the initial proposal from church and Lamar representatives earlier this month but suggested at that time the church conduct an additional neighborhood informational meeting in regards to the plans to erect an 83-foot billboard with a 14-foot-by-48-foot sign face.

The proposal is expected to come back to the Planning Commission on Feb. 12, and possibly reach the Common Council on Feb. 20.
