Greenfield's M&I Bank Experiencing Name Change Only

The bank is not closing, but its signage has been removed in anticipation of it becoming a BMO Harris branch next month.

For those concerned that Greenfield’s M&I Bank at the corner of 76th Street and Layton Avenue was a victim of last year’s purchase of Milwaukee-based Marshall & Ilsley Corp. by BMO Financial, fear not.

Yes, some banks across the state – 21 Harris branches and three M&I branches – were closed, but not Greenfield’s. The “M&I Bank” signage was recently removed from the bank's exterior, but a bank employee told Greenfield Patch on Friday the signage was taken down as the bank at 7600 W. Layton Ave. becomes BMO Harris on Oct. 9.

The intersection has been a hot spot for business news — both good and bad — in recent months. Appliance and electronics chain h.h.gregg opened in late August and celebrated an official grand opening Sept. 20.

And this summer, Hooters, just to the west of the soon-to-be BMO Harris, closed its doors, creating a vacancy on what should be a prime piece of real estate.
