Is Wal-Mart Falling Behind in Value Shopping?

A new report says that the national retailer, which is building a massive, 140,000-square-foot store in Greenfield, is facing stiff competition from e-tailer Amazon in the quest to provide consumers the best bang for their bucks.

But according to YouGov BrandIndex, Wal-Mart is no longer the place where value consumers go to land the best deals around.

In fact, consumers don’t have to go anywhere to get great deals anymore. In a story on AOL’s Daily Finance, Amazon.com’s perception as a thrift-shopper magnet is on the rise, while Wal-Mart’s lags behind.

The story cites the most recent YouGov BrandIndex scores, which said Amazon’s score is 71 today (on a scale of 100 to -100) while Wal-Mart’s dipped to 22.

In a related story, AOL Daily Finance says big-box stores, of which Greenfield has many, are in trouble in general, and predicts that five big retail chains that have locations in Greenfield or Greendale will be gone in five years: , , , and . That prediction comes on the heels of Best Buy announcing in the coming months.
