Local Resale Store Promoting Fashion, Frugality

Greenfield High School students will get a taste of fashion merchandising when they participate in a clothing display contest at . 

Plato's Closet, a name-brand resale store for teens and young adults, is sponsoring a competition with area high schools to see which team creates the best wall display using store clothing and accessories.  The team that receives the most votes from customers between Feb. 12 and March 6 gets to choose between splitting a $250 Plato’s Closet shopping spree or donating the $250 to a charity of their choice.

The competing high schools include Franklin, Greenfield, Milwaukee Pulaski, Milwaukee Ronald Reagan, Shorewood and South Milwaukee.

"So much of our business comes from students, so we want to provide them with the opportunity to express their fashion sense, test their merchandising skills, and work as a team while competing for the opportunity to win a great prize," Plato's Closet owner Pam Ohman said in a news release.

Plato's Closet buys and resells name brand, slightly used clothing and accessories. It also sells new merchandise.

The contest is also intended to educate students and their families with ways to save money. According to the news release, a gently used outfit - a pair of jeans, a hooded sweatshirt and a T-shirt - comprised of a more expensive brand such as Abercrombie could be had for approximately $55 at Plato's Closet. That same outfit, according to the release, could cost around $160 new.
