Pacific Produce Will Remain Open Through June

Despite previous food safety issues, the supermarket will not have its license revoked before it expires next summer.

Despite persistent food safety compliance issues since it opened in November 2010, Sat Le, the owner of Pacific Produce, an Asian supermarket on the city’s east side, will not have his licensed revoked by the City of Greenfield.

Health Director Darren Rausch recommended to the city’s Board of Health last week to allow Le to keep Pacific Produce, 5455 S. 27th St., open through the end of his license, which expires at the end of June.

Between now and then, the Health Department will conduct two more health inspections, and in July, the city will decide whether or not to issue a license renewal.

On Oct. 25, inspectors found 11 violations, all of which Rausch said were minor and easy to fix.

“Over the last couple of months, they did a really good job of getting more under compliance,” Rausch said. “We’d like to have zero (violations) obviously, but the type and the nature of the violations are such that there weren’t significant risks to someone who buys their food.”

Rausch said violations can be found at most food establishments throughout the city.

“We don’t expect to see perfection,” Rausch said. “Generally, we’re going to find three to five things at any number of establishments, but what’s important is how fast they can be addressed.

“We think we’re in a good spot and we think Mr. Le and his team believe they’re in a good spot.”

The supermarket’s deli, which was closed in late 2011, will remain closed through the end of June, Rausch said.
