Popular Chinese Restaurant in Greenfield Now Closed

Tam's Chop Suey at 68th and Layton Avenue closed earlier this spring.

Tam’s Chop Suey, known perhaps as much for its great carryout cuisine as its general lack of upkeep to the exterior of its restaurant at 68th and Layton Avenue, has closed.

Customers said online the restaurant closed in early May.

Located at 6725 W. Layton, Tam’s rarely had dine-in customers but served some of the best take-out Chinese food in the city. In fact, it was the winner of Greenfield Patch’s Reader’s Choice Award last summer.

But the restaurant was an eyesore from the shingles falling off the roof, to the uneven parking lot to the vacant lot to the east that has been seemingly for sale for ever.

The building has been in Greenfield since at least 1955, back when it was a tavern and residence, according to Community Development Manager Charles Erickson, who said it appeared Tam’s had been in business at that location since 1989.
