Solid Gold McDonald's Fate Not Unique

The restaurant chain is making sweeping changes to its look nationwide.

At yesterday's Greenfield Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast, Mayor Michael Neitzke, while discussing development and the business upgrades around the city, shared a story about Solid Gold McDonald's.

Neitzke, like so many Greenfield residents and nostalgia fans, , and during one of his final visits to the now-demolished landmark, Neitzke's son turned to him and said, "You're the mayor, can't you do something?"

Greenfield's Solid Gold McDonald's, from what I can tell, was one of a kind, but older versions of the restaurant around the country are suffering the same fate, as reported by the Huffington Post late last week. According to the story, the chain has invested more than $1 billion to upgrade 14,000 restaurants by 2015.

Sadly, it's all about looking sleek and flatscreen TVs.

But hey, I hate to end on a sour note so if you want a pick-me-up or a blast from our not-so-distant past, check out this YouTube video of Mac Tonight or this awesome one of one of the famous car shows.
