Solid Gold McDonalds, Solid Gold Memories

A legend has left Greenfield with the demolition of the longtime hotspot.

It was six years ago.

My birthday is Jan. 26, and it was the weekend after my 26th birthday. Believe it or not, my good friend Jesse Lee, whose birthday is Jan. 27th, celebrated his 27th birthday that week.

For months, we joked that we had to go to Solid Gold McDonald's for our golden birthdays and as the birthdays got closer, we were determined to make it happen.

So Jesse and I, his wife, my then-future wife, and Jesse's parents, who were visiting from out of town, headed to 76th Street for the golden celebration.

Once we walked in, we were guided to the piano-playing Mac Tonight, where much to our surprise, our closest friends and my entire family - parents, siblings, and brothers-in-law - awaited.

That will always be my favorite Solid Gold McDonald's memory. Now, what's yours?

Also my favorite memory of Solid Gold McDonalds (and one of my favorite birthdays)!

I used to go there with my Grandpa when I was about 3 and watch the Moon play and sneak behind the pillar to watch his hands move around. It was all about the Moon. Once I grew up we would still go to Solid Gold when he picked me up from gradeschool and just go through the drive-through. My Grandpa died in 2001 and like many other places Solid Gold will always hold a small place in my heart with my memories of him.

Hey, thanks for sharing, Alaina. A great heart-felt story. I'm sure tons of Greenfield folks have similar feelings about that former landmark.

I started working there , when i was just in high school (about 20 years ago). When i started it was was just McDonalds. Then shortly after, they turn it over to be Solid Gold McDonalds. I remember giving tours of the front, tell customers about all the different things. and it felt like we were all family, and i still today tell people all about McDonalds. It will be missed.
