Subdivision Could Pop Up Near Greenfield Middle School

A proposal would turn green space at 35th and Barnard into a nine-lot subdivision.

Another subdivision near a Greenfield school is in the works.

Just months after the City of Greenfield approved a 12-lot plan near Elm Dale Elementary, it is considering allowing work to begin on a nine-home project by Greenfield Middle School.

Gerry Klamrowski of Greenfield Parkview Estates wants to develop 4.2 acres at the corner of 35th Street and Barnard Avenue into a nine-lot subdivision. His proposal will be heard by the city’s plan commission Tuesday and likely the Common Council on July 16, and calls for two stages of construction: three initial homes and six at a later date.

The same proposal was made back in 2008, before the housing and construction market took a downward turn.

The subdivision plans come approximately two years after the city’s common council chose not to rezone the land from residential to institutional, preventing the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from building a 16,100-square-foot church there.

Neighbors concerned about losing green space opposed the church, and alderpersons who voted against the rezoning cited traffic concerns.
