Two New Childcare Facilities Could Open Soon in Greenfield

One of them would replace Amy's Academy on 76th Street.

The owner of Kingdom Care Academy hopes to operate a childcare facility for children as young as 4 weeks and up to 12 years in the space formerly used by Amy’s Academy on 76th Street.

Nathaniel Gaskin, who operates Kingdom Care Academy’s current location at 11530 W. Layton Ave. in the West Layton Assembly of God Church, would move in to the Amy’s Academy space after that childcare provider closed after more than 10 years in the community.

The location, 4161 S. 76th St., is about 6,000 square feet next to Advanced Auto Parts, which opened late last year.

Hours of operation would be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In another part of town, Bright Rainbow Academy owner Sabri Abdel-Hamid, who owns a childcare facility at 3340 W. Loomis Rd., wants to open a second location at 6944 W. Forest Home Ave.

The city has some concerns about that proposal, however, because Abdel-Hamid has proposed making a fenced-in front yard, adjacent to busy Forest Home Avenue, a play area, and city staff is concerned about potential safety risks with such a move.

In addition, the city has parking and drop-off/pick-up concerns based on the current layout of the facility.

Both proposals will come to the city’s Plan Commission at 6:30 p.m. June 11, at City Hall.
