Rolfing Akido Poet

Choose to be in environments and around people that increase your probability of happiness. The persons who become the happiest and grow the most are ...

According to her Linkedin profile JP is in radiology at a local hospital. She has a wide interest and knowledge in complementary healing modalities; especially Rolfing. She’s a long time student of akido and a budding poet.

I was surprised that her car was ready before my shift was over. She was on the pick-up board for later. JP, however, was not surprised.  She brought one of her own poems to read to me. Another first.

Funny what you can talk about while driving to the lakefront. Usually just enough to wish the trip were longer.

That is not always the case. Sometimes the story folks want to tell is the same story they tell to anyone with half an ear and half an hour. After a minute it seems like they are on a saleman’s tape loop. Depending on my mood I might try to get a word in and get a game going that two people can play.

I like to talk about uplifting moments and give encouragement. Some of the time I am able to lift the spirits on the morning ride. Perhaps I am the rolfing akido poet.

On the ride back to the dealership I like to listen to public radio. Often there are authors talking about their books. I especially favor ideas about  learning, education, brain science and positive psychology.

Perhaps it’s my age and the region I live in. I am old enough to have become cynical. I press firmly in another direction.

Tom G. Stevens, PhD, titled his book with the bold assertion, You Can Choose to Be Happy. "Choose to make happiness a top goal," Stevens tells WebMD. "Choose to take advantage of opportunities to learn how to be happy. For example, reprogram your beliefs and values. Learn good self-management skills, good interpersonal skills, and good career-related skills. Choose to be in environments and around people that increase your probability of happiness. The persons who become the happiest and grow the most are those who also make truth and their own personal growth primary values."
