Is Emerald Ash Borer in Greenfield?

Emerald ash borer is most likely already feeding on trees in Greenfield.

By now most of you have heard something about Emerald ash borer, the insect that will possibly cause the death and destruction of all ash trees in our community. If you were waiting for it to get here before you start protecting your ash trees, WAIT NO MORE! If you have an important ash tree that you plan on protecting, it is time to begin!

In every community where EAB has been found, the insect was active for 5 to 7 years before trees began to die wholesale. EAB has rapidly spread through our neighboring communities of Oak Creek and Franklin since it was first found in 2009 prompting a quarantine of Milwaukee County. Two years late,r the dying ash trees found within 2 blocks of our city limits suggest the insect is most likely already at work in Greenfield. If you decide to treat your own trees use products according to label directions and when you hire a professional tree company always ask for Certified arborists and for a certificate of insurance.

To date EAB has killed more than 60,000,000 ash trees, bringing financial devastation to some communities in its path. Coping with this threat to nearly a quarter of our urban forest will require cooperation, communication and creative thinking from all of us.
