DOT Releases Memorial Day Construction Zones

Construction in 22 areas across the state will continue through the holiday weekend. Check out the local impact here.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is advising drivers that most highways will be open Memorial Day weekend, but there are a few work zones that could slow things down.

Projects on interstate highways will allow at least two lanes in each direction, but expect delays during peak travel periods.

In the Milwaukee area, at the I-94/I-43/I-894 Mitchell Interchange, ramps from northbound I-94 to westbound I-43/I-894 and from eastbound I-43/I-894 to southbound I-94 are closed with detours posted for local streets or by using I-94 through downtown Milwaukee.

Other major projects include I-94 in Waukesha and Dane counties and work on US 41 at Oshkosh and Green Bay.

Motorists should stay alert, slow down and allow a safety cushion between vehicles when driving through work zones. Officials urge motorists to give adequate time to get to their destination, be patient in congested areas and avoid driving during peak travel times of noon-8 p.m. Friday, May 27, and Monday, May 28.

Law enforcement agencies will participate in Click It or Ticket, encouraging motorists to buckle up to protect themselves. Unbuckled motorists will get a ticket.

A map of work zones is available on the WisDOT Web site.
