Introducing the Greenfield Beautification Committee

The Greenfield Beautification committee thanks those who helped with the recent Arbor Day celebration and Clean-Up Day.

Hello Greenfield!

Welcome to the first Greenfield Beautification Committee blog. Many thanks to the Patch team for inviting us to share our events and comments with the overall community.

First a little background info. The Greenfield Beautification Committee is a citizen volunteer group dedicated to improving Greenfield by encouraging residents to beautify their yard and landscapes and by promoting education about trees, gardens and overall ‘yard scapes.' We were founded in the early 1990s by our director, Joan Stevens. Many folks know us from our annual Landscape Awards Contest each Summer. Ten winners are chosen and you may have seen our award signs around the city.

But there are several other events we sponsor. We recently completed our a couple weeks ago. Along with dozens of volunteers, we planted over 30 trees along the median strips of 60th street from Layton Ave to Cold Spring Rd. Special thanks to Mayor Nietzke, the Greenfield Police Department and the Greenfield Department of Public works for their help in completing the event. They were great!

Then last week we helped over 2,000 folks in the annual in Greenfield. Many folks did their cleanup last Saturday despite the awful weather. We provided bags and free coupons for the volunteers. Thanks to all who helped.

Next up in our busy spring: the City Hall flower planting on June 4 at 9 a.m. More details on that event next time. For further info, check out our website at WWW.GBCINFO.ORG

Take care and Think Spring!
